"Knight Before the Game 1992-93" is a historical documentary of Bob Knight and the 1992-93 Indiana basketball team. It contains excerpts from 50 radio broadcasts in which Bob Knight analyzed and discussed his team and its development.

The players were talented, and they developed the tough-minded approach to basketball that Bob Knight stresses. The team gave Knight a very good season, and a three-year record that is better than any other IU team.

  • A record of 31-4
  • Elite eight in the NCAA
  • Preseason NIT Champions
  • Big Ten Conference Champions
  • Winners of two holiday tournaments
  • Calbert Cheaney was Player of the Year
  • Indiana ranked first at the end of the regular season

Bob Knight earned that "important" number one ranking three times by winning NCAA Championships in 1976, 1981 and 1987.

You can almost hear Bob Knight speak as you read his comments. The interviews created a unique time exposure of Bob Knight the man, and a behind-the-scenes view of a very good basketball team.

The “Bob Knight Pre-game Show” and the “Bob Knight Talk Show” were broadcast on the Indiana Sports Radio Network during the 35-game 1992-93 season. The material that Bob Knight covered in the programs was interesting, informative and entertaining. This was Bob Knight in his own words, and we transcribed the shows and present them now for you to read and enjoy.

The “Pre-game Show” was recorded before each Indiana basketball game, usually after Coach Knight completed his “walk through” which was the team’s final preparation for a game. The pre-game interviews were often conducted at courtside when Indiana played at home or at the team hotel when Indiana was on the road. These pre-game interviews included an analysis of the team Indiana faced that day, an overview of Indiana’s previous game and areas of special interest to Coach Knight. The interview was then broadcast immediately prior to each game.

The “Bob Knight Talk Show,” which was broadcast on Monday evenings during the regular season, was originated live from Coach Knight’s private locker room when he was in Bloomington. The shows were prerecorded if the team was traveling. In the weekly talk show, Coach Knight answered questions from Don Fischer and IU fans, and covered in more depth issues that were of interest to him.

This book contains excerpts from both programs, 50 broadcasts in all. This is Bob Knight, in his own words.
